Louis Vuitton x Murakami

Honeymoon In Style With The New Louis Vuitton x Murakami 20th Anniversary Collection

The French fashion house and Japanese artist announce the arrival of a celebratory re-edition that reimagines the original collection

Two decades on, the illustrious partnership between Louis Vuitton and esteemed artist, Takashi Murakami has borne yet another exquisite chapter in its storied narrative, proudly unveiling Louis Vuitton x Murakami, a sublime re-edition that reimagines the iconic original collection. Encompassing over 200 creations, this latest endeavour serves as a contemporary exhibition of an enduring creative alliance characterised by visionary artistry, unparalleled craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology, and the perennial allure inherent in this seminal moment in the early 21st century’s pop culture and collector repertoire.

Louis Vuitton x Murakami seamlessly intertwines the house’s unwavering dedication to creativity and innovation with Murakami’s gorgeously vibrant and imaginative aesthetic. Born in Tokyo in the 1960s, Murakami is globally revered for his unique synthesis of traditional Japanese art, sci-fi elements, anime, and whimsical kawaii characters, which are frequently rendered in repetitive motifs across paintings, sculptures and films that encapsulate the intersection of pop culture, history, and fine art.

This re-edition pays homage to the playful-yet-profound works that Murakami originally conceived for this collaboration, initiated under the aegis of Marc Jacobs, the former Artistic Director of the house. This includes the kaleidoscopic reinterpretation of the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram pattern, marking the first instance in its rich history that this emblematic design has undergone such a transformation. These celebrated pieces grace a vast assortment of the house’s most coveted leather goods and accessories, encompassing iconic City Bags, silk squares and scarves, sunglasses, fashion jewellery, footwear and fragrances.

Each piece within this delightful collection is now a testament to technological advances that, combined with the house’s rich culture of craftsmanship and savoir-faire, afford a remarkable depth of printed application. This results in an unparalleled vibrancy of colour and an exceptional precision in the portrayal of Murakami’s beloved motifs. Standout offerings from the new collection include the Monogram Multicolore, its interlocking LV and floral patterns represented in 33 resplendent hues adorning the house’s famed City Bags, such as the Keepall, the Coussin, the Dauphine, the OnTheGo and the Speedy, alongside belts, wallets, wedge espadrilles, and the striking Rolling Trunk.

The endearing LV Hands logo appears on charming Alma BB bags and elegant silk Carrés, while the endearing Superflat Panda motif graces an array of sneakers, keyrings, and even a skateboard. Additionally, the whimsical Superflat Garden blossoms on the Attrape-Rêves perfume bottles, complemented by a stunning assortment of exquisitely crafted Capucines bags and the magnificent Cherry Blossom motif adorning vibrant Papillon bags, platform sandals, and the majestic Courrier Lozine 110 Fleurs trunk.

The creative synergy shared by Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami transcends not only time but also stylistic trends, bridging generations and communities across the globe, while offering creations to be cherished and collected forever.

The Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection will be available for global order commencing January 1, 2025, with a second chapter set to launch in March, spotlighting the artist’s aptly seasonal Cherry Blossom pattern.
