Colour Codes: Chanel’s Latest Beauty Launch

Chanel unveils Les 4 Ombres Boutons – a couture homage to cosmetic colour and timeless Parisian sophistication

Since its debut in 1982, Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres has been more than an eyeshadow palette; it has become a symbol of elegance, a miniature square of desire that distilled the Maison’s artistry into four perfectly balanced shades. This season, the icon returns with a couture twist: Les 4 Ombres Boutons, a limited edition that celebrates one of Gabrielle Chanel’s most beloved motifs – the button.

For Mademoiselle Chanel, buttons were never mere fastenings. They were talismans, storytellers and declarations of style. In this new edition, Chanel transforms that philosophy into beauty. Each eyeshadow is embossed with emblematic symbols of the House – a camellia, a bottle of N°5 and even the Milky Way – creating a miniature wardrobe of Chanel codes designed to dress the eyes.

The palette itself is a study in contrasts, offering four distinct moods. Mademoiselle offers satiny shades of light pink, peach, taupe and ivory beige that whisper of chiffon softness. Baroque dazzles with magenta purple, orangey gold, soft pink and copper red embracing opulence with boldness. Couture grounds the gaze in purple brown, rosy beige, deep brown, and mauvy taupe, echoing the tweed, quilting and chains that define the brand. Finally, Stellar takes flight with ashy beige, gold, copper and silver blue, conjuring the image of a comet in heels gliding through the night sky.

Pigment packed and playful, Les 4 Ombres Boutons is both collectible and wearable – a treasure to apply, admire and covet. With its lacquered black case stamped with the iconic double C, this palette is not just make-up, but a statement of heritage and artistry. Chanel reminds us once again: true luxury lies in exquisite detail and in the stories we choose to tell with colour.
